Class 7: English, Lesson 6: The Vagabond
Lesson 6: The Vagabond
(Robert Louis Stevenson)
Part 1: Text & Translation (Stanzas 1 & 2)
English:
Give to me the life I love,
Let the lave go by me,
Give the jolly heaven above
And the byway nigh me.
Bed in the bush with stars to see,
Bread I dip in the river –
There’s the life for a man like me,
There’s the life for ever.
Let the blow fall soon or late,
Let what will be o’er me;
Give the face of earth around
And the road before me.
Wealth I seek not, hope nor love,
Nor a friend to know me;
All I seek, the heaven above
And the road below me.
আমার ওপর যা হওয়ার তা হোক;
চারপাশে দাও উন্মুক্ত পৃথিবী
আর আমার সামনের খোলা পথ।
আমি সম্পদ খুঁজি না, আশা বা ভালোবাসাও না,
এমন কোনো বন্ধুও চাই না যে আমাকে জানবে;
আমি কেবল চাই, মাথার ওপরের আকাশ
আর আমার পায়ের তলার পথ।
Part 2: Text & Translation (Stanzas 3 & 4)
English:
Or let autumn fall on me
Where afield I linger,
Silencing the bird on tree,
Biting the blue finger.
White as meal the frosty field –
Warm the fireside haven –
Not to autumn will I yield,
Not to winter even!
Let the blow fall soon or late,
Let what will be o’er me;
Give the face of earth around,
And the road before me.
Wealth I ask not, hope nor love,
Nor a friend to know me;
All I ask, the heaven above
And the road below me.
আমার ওপর যা হওয়ার তা হোক;
চারপাশে দাও উন্মুক্ত পৃথিবী
আর আমার সামনের খোলা পথ।
আমি সম্পদ চাই না, আশা বা ভালোবাসাও না,
এমন কোনো বন্ধুও চাই না যে আমাকে জানবে;
আমি কেবল চাই, মাথার ওপরের আকাশ
আর আমার পায়ের তলার পথ।

Describe your experience of enjoying a picnic (in about 70 words):
A Memorable Picnic
Last winter, our school organized a wonderful picnic at the Joypur Forest. The weather was pleasantly cold. I went there with all my classmates and teachers. We reached the spot by bus at 9 AM. We played outdoor games like badminton and passing the parcel. The scenic beauty of the tall Sal trees was mesmerizing. After playing, we enjoyed a delicious lunch together. We sang, danced, and had a lot of fun. I felt extremely happy and refreshed after this beautiful picnic.
